Changing an existing dial-up connection to 10-digit dialing

NOTE: When instructions show xxx-xxxx, replace it with the appropriate dialup access number for your calling area:

Kingston & Area: 613-547-3005
Belleville & Area: 613-969-1435

NOTE: If you have a pulse phone line, contact our Technical Support department for additional assistance.

Select your operating system:


Windows 95/98

  1. Double-click on My Computer
  2. Double-click on Dialup Networking
  3. Double-click on the KOS icon (usually labelled KOS Kingston or KOS Belleville) and select Properties
  4. Check that the phone number is listed as 613-xxx-xxxx
  5. Click Ok to save changes

Windows ME

  1. Double-click on My Computer
  2. Double-click on Control Panel
  3. Double-click the Dialup Networking folder
  4. Double-click on the KOS icon (usually labelled KOS Kingston or KOS Belleville) and click on the Dial Properties button
  5. Check that the phone number is listed as 613-xxx-xxxx
  6. Click Connect to make a connection

Windows 2000

  1. Select Start -> Settings -> Network and Dialup Connections
  2. Right-click on the KOS icon (usually labelled KOS Kingston or KOS Belleville) and select Properties
  3. Confirm that the Use dialing rules box is NOT checked
  4. Change the phone number to 613-xxx-xxxx
  5. Click OK

Windows XP

  1. Select Start -> Control Panel and double-click on Network Connections
  2. Click View Network Connections
  3. A window will appear, listing all network connections set up on your computer. Examine the setting in the Dial-up area and double-click on the connection you use to dial into KOS, probably labelled KOS Kingston or KOS Belleville
  4. Click Properties
  5. Confirm that the Use dialing rules box is NOT checked (Area Code field will be greyed out)
  6. Add 613 to the Phone number
  7. Click OK

Macintosh OS 8.1 - 9

  1. Open the Remote Access control panel from the Apple menu
  2. Change the phone number to include the area code: 613-xxx-xxxx
  3. When you close Remote Access you will be asked to save the change to the configuration, click yes

Macintosh OS X

  1. Choose System Preferences from the Apple menu or click the System Preferences icon in the dock
  2. Click the Network icon to display its preferences
  3. Click the PPP tab and add the area code to the numbers listed for the main number: 613-xxx-xxxx (you may leave the the alternate blank)
  4. Click Apply Now and quit System Preferences
